Today, every member of the community\u2014including adults and children\u2014is living in fear and insecurity<\/p>\n<p>In response, the Niwano Peace Foundation issued an official statement to bring this grave situation to wider public attention and help deter any acts of violence. Mr. Piy\u00e3ko and other Ash\u00e1ninka leaders have also met with President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, and the statement has been presented to the Office of the President as an official expression of concern from a Japanese organization.<\/p>\n<p>We hope that people throughout the world will learn about the situation facing Mr. Piy\u00e3ko and the Apiwtxa community and will share this statement widely. Through such collective attention, we sincerely hope that their safety and peace will be restored and that those responsible for these threats will choose the path of conscience.<br \/>\n(For further details, please see the attached official statement.)\n<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Ap\u00f3s retornar ao Brasil, o Sr. Benki Piy\u00e3ko, laureado com o 43\u00ba Pr\u00eamio Niwano da Paz, juntamente com sua fam\u00edlia, seus irm\u00e3os e o povo Ashaninka da comunidade Apiwtxa, passou a sofrer graves amea\u00e7as, incluindo amea\u00e7as de morte, por parte de organiza\u00e7\u00f5es criminosas envolvidas na explora\u00e7\u00e3o ilegal de madeira e no tr\u00e1fico de drogas.
