Sheikh Saliou Mbacke

“Islam is a religion of peace. It preaches peace, love and harmony. Islamic teachings recommend living in good neighborliness as they recommend treating your neighbor the same way you would like to be treated. These values have inspired my work for peace”

Sheikh Saliou Mbacke

Sheikh Saliou Mbacke was born in Senegal into a religious family associated with the Muridiya Sufi Order, founded by his great-grandfather, Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacke.

Sheikh Mbacke is currently working with World Faith Development Dialogue as a Consultant for WFDD’s project on faith and family planning in Senegal. Prior to that, he was the continental Coordinator of Inter-Faith Action for Peace in Africa (IFAPA), a non-profit, faith-based organization that unifies religious communities of seven faith traditions across Africa to sow the seeds of peace. He is a liaison person for international affairs of the Muridiya Islamic Sufi Order in Senegal and a member of the Consultative Council for the promotion of Religion and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), a Council established by the Senegalese Red Cross in collaboration with Qatar Red Crescent. Sheikh Mbacke serves on the Board of “UNIES VERS’ELLES SENEGAL,” an NGO assisting marginalized women in West Africa.

Sheikh Mbacke has contributed to inter-faith dialogues for peace and social justice throughout the world, including with the United Nations, the World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace, and the African Union. He believes that for religion to contribute to world peace there is a need for interfaith dialogue to promote harmony of minds, meeting of cultures, and the common good, and to strive to ensure human dignity and fundamental rights to justice.
