The proposed construction of the Myitsone Dam in the Irrawaddy River Delta in Myanmar risked destroying the natural environment and disrupting the livelihoods and culture of the people who depended on the river basin’s environmental resources, thereby creating a serious conflict between policy and people. Born and raised in the Irrawaddy River delta, Mr. Myint Zaw photographed the lives of people living in the watershed and published articles regarding their concerns about the dam construction to raise public awareness. He also embraced art-oriented approaches by collaborating with multiple artists to create a series of exhibitions where people could visualize the dam’s impact.
